The Story
Capitalizing on the lack of hockey teams in a number of major American cities and mid-level Canadian cities, the WHA was the first major league to compete with the NHL. The Ottawa Nationals entered the league in 1972, playing at the Ottawa Civic Centre. The Nationals only graced the ice for one season and were moved to Toronto and renamed the Toronto Toros.
